Recently, the HCM City Department of Transport has just decided to start the river bus project with two pilot routes. Line 1 from Bach Dang wharf (district 1) to Linh Dong (Thu Duc district) and line 2 from Bach Dang wharf to Lo Gom (district 8).
On February 18th, Tran Quang Lam, Deputy Director of HCMC Department of Transport, said that in 2017, the first river bus project in Vietnam will be implemented with line one 11 km long from Bach Dang wharf to Linh Dong. In line 1 there will be a total of 7 stop stations located in areas such as District 1, District 2, Binh Thanh and Thu Duc. Line two 10.3 km long from Bach Dang to Lo Gom wharf (District 8), passes through stops place in Districts 1, 4, 5,6 and ends in District 8.
The project is likely to be an effective solution to overcome traffic congestion in the area and also bring newness and modernity in traffic in Vietnam. The estimated fare for each voyage will be VND15,000 / visit and will last for 2 years before the price change following the market situation.
It is expected that the first river bus service will have 9 terminals and 10 trains each costing about 3.8 billion VND. Each train will be equipped with modern equipment such as air conditioning system, rescue and rescue equipment with a capacity of 80 people each. With two bus routes, the capacity of passenger transport is estimated to be up to 5,000 passengers a day.
The project was proposed and submitted by Thuat Nhật Co., Ltd. Initially, the project was proposed by Thuong Nhat company in 2010 and assigned to research and development units. But until 2012, the project is halted and until 2015 it will start operating again. At the launch of the project, the HCM City People’s Committee together with representatives of Thuong Nhat Company exchanged with each other through a model of river bus operated by the Song Anh architectural model company.
When the project was allowed to implement, the people in HCM City in particular and the whole country in Vietnam had some surprises and conclusions. As the implementation of this river route also contributes to tourism development in the area of Ho Chi Minh City. Although the model of the river bus has long been abroad, but when it comes to Vietnam, it will be a landmark development of waterway infrastructure in Vietnam.
